ArtStudies in the Muzeum umění Olomouc. Central European Art Database

The Museum umění Olomouc (MUO) conducts extensive research on contemporary art in Central Europe. The achievements of the MUO make this institution the main center of studies on the art of this region, located in this part of Europe.

The work of the MUO team can be called ArtStudies. This term was coined by Udo Wid (see: Art and Documentation no.21 (2019): http://journal.doc.art.pl/pdf21/art_and_documentation_21_art_collectives_artstudies_wid.pdf). He describes a situation where artists, curators, art critics, art historians, archivists, galleries & museums stuff and all those interested work together within the field of art, using their research methods (epistemic) to produce a particular kind of knowledge, here on art in this subject area.

The database is developed and updated. It archives old art, the avant-garde of the twentieth century. And also contemporary art, up to the present day. The collection of photography, and film media, curated by Štěpánka Bieleszová, is particularly important and developed. The MUO collects works representing the entire region, all countries, as well as trends and periods of art. It is presented in the permanent exhibition A Century of Relativity. There is also the Triennial of Contemporary Central European Art. So the research & art work at MUO is comprehensive and ongoing.
